Oil treatment units before transportation

 

he oil circulated out from cased holes comes out to the surface with the formation water,  associated gas and solid particles of mechanical rocks. 
Primary processing is separation of the mixture into components.  Gas separating is relatively easy, but oil and water form an emulsion together.
Since the presence of water in the supplied oil significantly increases transportation costs, it is subjected to compulsory dehydration.

Oil dehydration and desalting  units before transporation:

Gravity oil separators

 

The principle of these separators operation is based on the separation of the flow from the materials passing through it under the influence of gravity. Gravity separator consists of vessels bigger than the diameter of the pipeline through which the gas flows.

Depending on the motion direction of the gas the separators can be:
  • vertical
  • horizontal
Gas passes through the tubes at a low rate so that the water particles, rocks and dross could gravitate to  the bottom of the vessels, and the refined oil could move further to the output pipes.
The main disadvantage of gravity separator is big size.

 

Oil Treatment System Heater-Treater

 

Heater-Treater unit replaces multiple devices:  all components of the mixture are simultaneously treated in it. Heater-Treater is oil, gas and water separator with direct heating intended obtaining pure oil from the wells products, boreholes separation and pre-separation dehydration. It is able to operate in harsh environments at temperatures up to -60 C.

Whereis this equipment is not afraid of strong winds and is installed in the open air. Heater-Treater block is almost ready for operation, which significantly reduces the time and financial costs of construction and installation works.

 

The structure and operating principle of Heater-Treater

 

 

The liquid and gas is supplied to Heater-Treater through the inlet fitting on the top of the tank. In the inlet compartment the gas and liquid are separated. The released gas rises through the moisture extractor to the gas outlet pipe. In the moisture extractor the fluid from the gas, is coagulated and is combined with the liquid phase at the bottom of the container. The gas goes further into the valve controller which is responsible for the pressure and the level of oil in Heather-Treater.

The liquid gets on to the front hood spreading the unit flow. It flows across it to the bottom of the device under the flue pipe. During this process the free water is released.

Maintaining the temperature in the flue pipe and combustor is done by processing of associated petroleum gas coming from the fuel preparation unit. The control unit is equipped with controllers and temperature and flame control devices.
 
The more resistant emulsion is heated by flame tubes and that’s why is destroyed quickly. Coalesced water droplets flow down to the lower part of the device and are connected with the remaining free water. Whereas drops of oil go further together and rise above to coalescing filters (coalessors).
 
Filters for oil products, coalessors, represent the structure of polypropylene shaped plates arranged one above the other. Oil drops rise to the top layer of the filter, where they form a film. Corrugated plates located above each other, create a large area of coagulation. In this section, drops all together form large globules and replace the water which under the force of gravity flows to the bottom of the container. And then it moves on to the bottom of the unit to the pipes of water discharge. Dehydrated oil rises up to the oil phase, then into the collection pocket, where it emerges from the unit absolutely purified through the pipe.
 
The relatively high cost of Heather - Treater installation is paid by a number of advantages:
  • Using one unit for multiple tasks realizatio
  • Possibility of oil separation in any volumes irrespective of its pressure
  • Gas separation occurs with the existing pressure of the incoming oil
  • "Maloney" filters provide improved purifying (basic water content in the oil doesn’t exceed 5 per cent)
  • Increased fire safety: the unique design of the heating section
  • The system automatically controls safety.

Electrical dehydrators for oil desalting and dehydration 

The presence of salt in the crude oil negatively affects the equipment and complicates necessary chemical and physical reactions. The salt oil is dissolved in the water. For simultaneous deep dehydration and desalting enterprises use electrical dehydrators.

Depending on their form electrical dehydrators can be 

  • Cylindrical
  • Spherical

According to the space location electrical dehydrators are as follows:

  • Vertical
  • Horizontal electrical dehydrators.

With AC electrostatic field is formed in ED. The oil emulsion passes through it and releases residual moisture.

 
The price of the electrical dehydrator depends on its complete set, automation level and operating conditions.
